Located in the Hawaiian archipelago, the island of Maui hosts an ambitious project of more than 1,000 modular homes, revolutionizing the residential sector in the area. Each home is being built using up to 1,800 m² of insulating panels. The project is already in its initial phase, and the first 20 houses are currently being built with Isoparete Box and Isoparete Piano panels for the facades and 1,160 m² of Isocop with LEAF insulating core and standard white on the internal and external faces. These materials guarantee excellent energy efficiency and provide a modern and attractive design that responds to the needs of the area.
The project started in January 2024 with a team formed by Isocindu's technical area, which provides engineering support in the elaboration of shop drawings and technical details, in collaboration with Steelgenix's architecture and industrial design studio. 3" panels were specified, using LEAF foam to ensure the best quality and efficiency in the constructions.
The initial plan calls for the delivery of 1,000 houses, and as a first stage, 20 houses have been released using Isoparete panel. These homes mark the beginning of a larger and more ambitious project aimed at transforming the way residences are built in the region.
Insulated panel envelope construction offers lower costs due to the smaller number of elements per crew; in addition, installation lead times are faster, allowing users to move in earlier. By using recyclable materials and reducing construction waste, environmental impact is minimized. With the increasing focus on sustainability and efficiency, dry construction continues to gain popularity in today's future-focused construction.
The project in Hawaii is a clear example of how these materials can transform the architectural design and energy efficiency of modern homes. As more projects adopt this technique, we are likely to see a significant increase in its use and development in the future.
